Earlier this year, Chelsea signed French footballer Olivier Giroud. As of now, his future with the club after his contract expires; seemed uncertain. But there have been reports stating that he is keen on extending his stay at Stamford Bridge.

Giroud has been a massive hit with Chelsea fans since he joined. He brought to in to replace Michy Batshuayi as Álvaro Morata’s backup. He also with him a vast amount of experience and skill that he picked up while at Arsenal, where he played an instrumental role in contributing to their success, netting 100 goals in 237 appearances. He also played an integral part in steering France towards victory at the 2018 FIFA World cup.

First Impressions

He made a great first impression when he joined Chelsea in January. Over the next couple of months, he, like most of the team, initially had a hard time finding his footing under Conte, but proved his worth nonetheless, essentially replacing Morata for most of the games. His performance at the recent FA Cup, which Chelsea won, was applauded and added to his reputation as a top quality player.
While many believed that Álvaro Morata would be a better fit for Sarri’s possession-based managerial style, but four games into the Premier League, they were proved wrong. The Spaniard’s performance was lackluster, and he, to the relief of several fans, was dropped for their match against Cardiff City in favor of Olivier Giroud.

He will be turning 32 this September, and as for what lies ahead for him next season, the French striker is reportedly open to an extension, possibly for an extra year, and does not want to rule out any possibilities, according to Telefoot. He also claimed that the club would be more than willing to make use of the optional automatic one-year renewal clause in his contract, as talks have been “positive.” Giroud will benefit by sticking with Stamford Bridge, and vice versa.
