Find Value in The Total Goals Market

One of the fastest growing markets for football betting is the over/under goals market. This fast-paced business has come to life over the past few seasons, and many people bet on this market instead of the traditional win/draw/win market now. On this market, you have to predict whether there will be over or under some goals on the line. The usual line for this market is 2.5, so you are betting on whether there will be three or more goals in the game or two or less.

When looking for value, I like to find two teams that are playing against each other with high stat lines for the goal line I want to play. Although it is early in the season, we can use some stats from this season’s Premier League games to show how you can identify teams that offer value.

West Ham has had over 2.5 goals in every single one of their games so far, despite not yet picking up a win and sitting bottom of the league. When people look for teams to back in this market, they often look for big teams who will score a lot, when the value is often with teams who concede goals too.

To show this, let us compare Everton and West Ham.

Everton will be a favorite selection on the over 2.5 goals market because of the attacking players they have signed this season, Wayne Rooney and Gylfi Sigurdsson, just to mention a few. However, so far none of their games have seen over 2.5 goals in the Premier League, which means every single bet on them would have been a loser.

West Ham would not be the first team that people would think to back in this market because they are seen as a mid-table team by many. However, every one of their games has seen more than 2.5 goals, which makes them the only team to do that and the most profitable team in the division when using this line.

Big clubs will always be slightly shorter in the betting for this type of market because they are expected to score well most weeks. However, take a look at the stats on offer and try to pick out teams that provide value. These are often teams you don’t expect, like West Ham, and they are a team that I will be keeping an eye on using this market in the coming weeks.

These stats will need a few more games before they settle down and can be used correctly, make sure you take a scout around now and get some teams on your radar who you think are going to be profitable in the total goals market this coming season.

If it pays to read the stats on offer and make sure you stay away from the bigger clubs when you are looking for value. If you do, then you have a better chance of making a profit from your betting in the total goals market.
