The end of each year is always conducive to talk about those players who have had the best performance worldwide.

In that sense, we have brought for you a summary of the 2019 top midfielders.

8. Luka Modrić: His team, Real Madrid, did not have the best season by not getting any titles. In spite of that, with his collective game, pass effectiveness and his poly-functional style, he achieved a good season individually. In fact, he was elected in the FIFA ideal team at The Best awards.

7. Paul Pogba: Manchester United didn't have a good season, but Frenchman Paul Pogba did. With his long passes, pace changes, and band changes in a few seconds, he reaffirmed himself as one of the best. He managed to reach the quarterfinals in the Champions League and sixth place in the Premier League with 9 assists and 13 goals.

6. Eden Hazard: He was named the best player of the 2018/19 UEFA Europa League season. In his last season with Chelsea, he scored 21 goals in all competitions and gave 17 assists. His extraordinary performance during the first half of the year led to his signing for Real Madrid and to appear on this list.

5. Miralem Pjanic: He again managed to win the Italian series with Juventus. Pjanic is one of the best game builders, and he has won well his role as a corners' kicker, and centers and free throws shooter. Therefore, Bosnian has become a necessary player in the Juventus scheme.

4. Kevin de Bruyne: He is one of the most complete footballers today. He is strong, creative, and very skilled with the ball. The Belgian Manchester City player can pass effectively in short, and in-depth. Besides, he shoots with power and precision, dribble, and retrieves balls. De Bruyne was injured most of the games of the 2018/2019 season. However, at the beginning of the 2019/2020 season, he has again demonstrated his high level with both, the Belgian team and the citizen team.

3. Christian Eriksen: the Danish midfielder was one of the best in the English Premier League (he was the third-best in assists), and the Champions League. Eriksen has extraordinary pass effectiveness and knows what to do at important moments. In addition, he was in second place in the award for the best midfielders according to UEFA, after Frenkie de Jong. Collectively he managed to reach the Champions League final.

2. Bernardo Silva: The season of this Portuguese player has been monstrous. So much so that he is already considered one of the best in the world. His outstanding performance made him one of Guardiola's favorites. Silva performs excellently as both midfielder and extreme, contributing goals, assists, and a great collective game.

1. Frenkie de Jong: He was chosen as the best UEFA midfielder and appeared in the ideal eleven of the FIFA Best Award. De Jong had an excellent season leaving everyone more than impressed, after reaching the semifinals of the Champions League and leave Real Madrid and Juventus behind. His ability to make incredible passes and his mastery of the ball make this new signing of FC Barcelona a great promise of world football.
