I have actually always been amazed by football prediction. I began in my teens when my friend informed me this "sure-win" wagering technique that included forecast on football matches. After we predict the outcome, the job is not done. The point is to outsmart the bookies, which means we must actually make money in the long run. Because the aim is to make money, using standard evaluation metrics like accuracy/validation loss is not a good measure of whether our goal is met. Hence, I multiplied bookmaker odds by the predicted probability of each correct outcome to see how profitable the model was.
